Antique American Jeweled and Stained Glass Ceiling 104" dia. fid6045

Antique American Jeweled and Stained Glass Ceiling, circa 1890.

Years ago I worked for, and with, Bob Ogorek of Flint, Michigan, one of the country's pre-eminent Tiffany and Stained Glass collectors.  After his death in the fall of 1999, I purchased this ceiling from his estate.  At the time of purchase it had been stored for several years in an attic at Ogorek's facilities and was comprised of 7 leaded panels, 7 wood mullions and a central medallion.  Unfortunately, but not unusually, the mullions had been cut free from the original ceiling framing and that framing was not extant with the consequence that the ceiling could not be assembled and viewed.   I crated the panels and parts and stored them away until such time that I could reconstruct the frame and then assemble the ceiling.  Finally, earlier this month I took several deep breaths and tackled this adventure.

The finished ceiling frame measures 104" in Diameter and the ceiling has a rise of about 6.5" above the bottom of the frame.  The seven individual segments are in very good condition with perhaps 4 cracked pieces total and those are mostly in the bottom borders.  I have included several pictures below from various perspectives as well as during the construction of the frame, to give some idea of the construction and configuration of this set.  In the pictures you will see that the circular frame is sitting on top of 2x6 framing.  In the actual installation of this set, the circular frame would be attached to the underside of the 2x framing members.  The frame disassembles into 4 or 5 segments for ease of transport and assembly.
